Olivia In Paris

Paris, the city of lights, romance, and culinary magic had always been at the top of my bucket list. The idea of walking beneath the Eiffel Tower, wandering through world- famous museums, and tasting authentic French pastries filled my imagination. When my thirteenth birthday approached, my parents surprised me with the ultimate gift: a trip to Paris. I could hardly wait.

We boarded Air France for an overnight flight. Though the seven-hour journey was long, the excitement of finally heading to Paris made sleep optional.

Landing early in the morning, we were greeted by my mom’s friend, who graciously drove us through Parisian streets lined with cafés, bakeries, and historic buildings.

From the moment we landed, the city felt alive. Streets lined with cafés, bakeries, and historic buildings hummed with energy. Scooters zipped past, locals chatted animatedly, and the scent of fresh bread drifted from boulangeries on every corner.

Our hotel, tucked in the heart of the city, offered a balcony with a breathtaking view

of the Eiffel Tower, twinkling even in the early morning light. That morning, I tried a Parisian crepe filled with Nutella and fresh strawberries at a quaint café, savoring every bite as Parisians sipped coffee and read their newspapers. That evening, room service arrived on a delicate cart adorned with rose petals and macarons, made even more magical by the Eiffel Tower glowing outside our window.

Exploring the Louvre felt like stepping into a storybook. The Winged Victory of Samothrace seemed to soar with energy, while the Venus de Milo whispered tales of ancient Greece. And then, there was the Mona Lisa. Amid the crowd, I finally caught her tiny, mysterious smile, feeling centuries of artistry come alive around me. Later, the Arc de Triomphe rose above us. Navigating the underground tunnels was confusing at first, but the view from the to—a patchwork of rooftops, avenues, and monuments—was breathtaking.

Versailles sparkled like a golden dream. Walking through ornate rooms lined with statues and intricate paintings felt like stepping into a royal palace frozen in time. Outside,  the  gardens  stretched  endlessly,

fountains dancing in the sunlight, and flowers blooming in every color imaginable. Lunch at a small castle-side restaurant felt like a royal treat, every bite of French cuisine as exquisite as the view of the manicured gardens.

Paris itself was full of surprises at every turn. Boutique shops tempted us with handmade chocolates and vintage postcards, street performers added music and laughter to bustling avenues, and tiny cafés invited us to pause with flaky pastries and rich chocolate drinks. At the Musée d’Orsay, vibrant Impressionist brushstrokes almost leapt off the canvas. Sainte-Chapelle dazzled with sunlight streaming through towering stained- glass windows. La Conciergerie whispered the stories of those once confined within its cold walls, and Notre-Dame’s gothic façade left me breathless even from outside. The Centre Pompidou, with its bold contemporary artworks, added a modern twist to the city’s treasures.

No trip to Paris would be complete without the Eiffel Tower. Ascending to the top, I marveled at the city sprawling beneath me, recognizing landmarks we had visited and imagining new adventures yet to come. Later, a Seine River cruise offered a serene perspective, gliding past historic bridges as a gentle breeze carried the scents and sounds of the city.

Our journey culminated at Mont-Saint-Michel, rising dramatically from the sea like something from a fairy tale. Narrow streets wound past charming shops and cafés, and endless stairs led us to the summit. At the top, a centuries-old church and a small flower field offered panoramic views of the surrounding waters. Every bite of our meal there, savored with that breathtaking view, felt like the perfect ending to an unforgettable adventure.

Ten days in Paris left me with memories bigger than I could have ever imagined, from savoring warm, chocolate-filled crepes in sunlit cafés to wandering through the glittering halls of royal palaces; from discovering hidden alleys and charming corners of the city to standing atop Mont- Saint-Michel, gazing at the sparkling sea below. Paris awakens every sense, brimming with history, beauty, and magic at every turn. It’s a place that stays with you long after you leave, a city that made one birthday girl feel as if she had stepped into a dream she never wanted to end.
